Sesame Street has delighted and educated Australian children since it first began airing on ABC TV in 1971.
Since that time, the popular TV series has been a mainstay not only for the Australian audiences on the ABC but for the countless viewers the world over who enjoy local Sesame Street programs in over 150 countries and translated into many, many languages.
By 2006, Sesame Street had become “the most widely viewed children’s television show in the world”, with 20 international independent versions featuring locally developed Sesame Street Muppets addressing the needs of children in that country.
Sesame Street has won 10 Grammy Awards and 138 Emmy Awards – more than any other children’s TV program.
