Tonia Todman first married at twenty, but continued to work from home when her two sons were born. First with Australian Vogue for 10 yeaes. There she had a wonderful female boss who threw her in the deep end whenever opportunities went past.
Journalism, fashion styling (she had always made her own clothes, and those for her family, plus soft furnishings) retail fashion parades, product marketing - this was all done to fit around her children's school hours. Tonia also started renovating old houses, and at last count has done five from top to toe, doing much of the work herself.
Tonia eventually left Vogue and went into haberdashery and fashion buying, sewing machine promotion and marketing, teaching textile and design to high school students, consultant to fabric designers and manufacturers, editing craft and decorating at Family Circle, New Idea, Handmad, and Women's Weekly and lectured for some years at David Jones on interior decoration.
Tonia also bought a large cushion factory and manufactured locally, in China and India, and continued to write lifestyle pages for women's magazines. She has had, and still has, several endorsements for prominent Australian companies. She was the face of Lincraft for 6 years, and still endorses Kresta window coverings in national television and print advertising campaigns.
Tonia has written 27 books and has now established a web site: www.toniatodman.com. The website is proving very popular, and is now the basis for the Creative Living Magazine, covering how-to information on craft, homestyle, gardening and cooking, and she has recently launched her on-line shop for hampers and gifts on her website.
During 2002, she started cooking alternatively with home-style stories on GMA, something that the audience really appreciated and that she loves doing.
Tonia spend eight happy years with Healthy Wealthy and Wise, had her own Summer television series 'Creative Living' and has been 16 years with Good Morning Australia. Needless to say, she enjoys the medium of television, and public speaking, and does as much of this as she can, especially for charities and Red Cross in particular.
The Victorian Government has Tonia as an Australia Day ambassador, where she thoroughly enjoys travelling around Victoria visiting country communities and speaking on Australia Day.
